But then Christmas isn’t politically correct either these days so who cares?. What’s my favorite Christmas movie? Why its the 1966 version of How the Grinch Stole Christmas of course!
All those Whos in Whoville didn’t win my heart but that deliciously nasty Grinch sure did. I just loved him as a kid. I loved his pathetic little dog too.
However, when I watched it again, I realized that its, umm, a teensy, weensy, little bit, terribly offensive. After all there is:
- severe and repeated abuse of a cartoon dog,
- insensitive characterizations of crocodiles,
- deliberate starvation of house-dwelling rodents,
- advocacy of lying to small children,
- a complete disregard for fire safety codes, and
- the running of a sleigh through ecologically sensitive habitats.
The understanding that my favorite Christmas movie as a kid is now objectionable just makes me like it more. What does that say about my character? Don’t answer that. Just watch the movie right here (for free).
Merry Christmas to all us Whos in Whoville. Merry Christmas to all the Grinchs out there. And super-duper Merry Christmas to all sad little dogs that have to suffer having an antler tied to their heads.

Merry Christmas to you as well! Thank you for your delightful posts and great tips and patterns!
You are very welcome! Have a wonderful Christmas full of yarn and food and family! And if there is a coating of pet hair on all your presents then you are truly blessed.
the grinch has always been and always will be my favourite christmas movie. i even watch it frequently all year long. (at least once a month)
I should watch it all year long too. Those rhymes are just terrific. No one put sounds together like Dr. Seuss!
I looove the original grinch cartoon and all of its delicious political incorrectness! I have a grinch T-shirt I wear religiously every year and my talking stuffed grinch is sitting on my shelves looking at me. Do I have a character flaw? Lol I hope you and all of your family, human and furry, have a wonderful Christmas.
You don’t have a character flaw. You just have a wicked sense of humor. We need more of that in this world. Merry Christmas!
I like the live action version of “The Grinch”.
Ahh. Then you must recommend it? I’ve never watched the Jim Carey version.
