A (Mostly) Finished Rag Bag!

Today is Hooray Day for me because I’m (mostly) finished with my Rag Bag Crochet Tote.

I like the bag. The Feline Overlord likes the bag. Even Cowardly Boy Cat seems to like the bag. Best of all? I have plenty of pictures to show how I (mostly) finished it off, instead of a bunch of clever excuses like last time.

I’m (mostly) finished with my crochet tote bag made from old sheets. I’ve been working on this, slowly but steadily, for a few weeks. First I turned those old sheets into “yarn”. I got that done, in spite of all the interference from very bad, very spoiled cats. Then I crocheted the bag, in spite of all the interference from very bad, very spoiled cats.

When last we checked in on the Rag Bag, it looked like this:

I used up almost all of the rest of the pale yellow and got it looking like this:

But its wasn’t done because it needed a closure flap. So I added a small square, worked back and forth, with a button hole.

Then of course it needed a button! I have a fondness for buttons. Any day I get to put one on a project is a good day.

But its wasn’t done because it needed handles. I braided those…

Then I tried to take a picture of the (mostly) finished bag.

Then I gave up and went to bed. I think Feline Overlord slept on the (mostly) finished bag all night. The next day, when the sun came up, I went outside to get my picture.

I got it. Eventually.

But its only mostly finished. Why? It needs a liner. I’m doing that today and I’ll totally share my cheater-cheater, ulta easy way to add a liner to a tote bag.

Ooo, I can’t wait! (But I guess I’ll have too, lol) I know you’ll have some clever way to add a liner that’s gonna save my life – I hate sewing.

The (mostly) finished bag is awesome. Great job!

But you won’t have to wait for long!

I too hate to sew. And I love to cheat.

Oh, I love it! You’ve driven me to consider heading for the thrift shop, in search of sheets! Lining? Oh, even better! You do realize that the feline overlords set off the colors perfectly, right?

Oh do they? ‘m sure they are the PURRfect knit & crochet models. Just ignore the shedded cat hair.

Going to buy old sheets? Well…. pick up a pillowcase or two. I’m just saying… you might find it comes in handy. 🙂

Beautiful job on the bag! I have to make one now. Did you do the flap separately and attach it or did you crochet it directly onto the bag? Your inspection crew seems to enjoy their work.

“inspection crew” my butt. the are just pests! Cute furry little pests!

To make the flap: I cut the “yarn”, moved over by about 11 stitches, rejoined with a slip stitch, and then worked back and forth in single crochet. I *think* my flap is seven stitches wide but I’d have to count to be sure.

HTH!

It looks awesome! I’m looking forward to the cheat too since I am a very beginner seamstress.

Thanks on the flap. That’s the way I would’ve done it. Just wanted to mke sure I was on track. New at crocheting by the seat of my pants (without a pattern) but I’ve jumped right in. Thanks again. Can’t wait for the lining.
