Weekly Rec - Love Those Bent Chibi Needles

I’m a sucker for crafty notions and accessories. I have far more than I truly need or can use or can locate at any given time. I own (stops to count…) eight tapestry needles. But I really only use these three Clover Chibi Jumbo Bent Tip Darning Needles.

They make that tiresome job of darning in yarn tails a little easier. I love them. I’ve talked plenty of knitters and crocheters into giving them a try and they seem to love them too. I think the only crafters who don’t want these needles are crafters who haven’t tried them yet.

Girls and Grannies - a Free Crochet Poncho Pattern

I’ve been working on this poncho for a few weeks and now its done. Time to dress it up a bit, run it past a camera, and share the pattern!

Its a giant granny square with a hole for your head. So simple! Then add some fringe and maybe a few beads and you’ll look like you just stepped out the 1970’s. Who wouldn’t want that, right? Right!

Channeling My Inner Granny

My Granny Square Poncho is nearly done. Its currently pinned out and blocking under the Texas sun. It will probably be dry by the type I finish putting this post together. Then it will be Fringe Party Time.

I have been taking notes and, as simple as this poncho is, I suppose its worth writing down and publishing as a pattern. A free one of course. No self-respecting granny would pay for a pattern that is just a giant square. She’d just figure it out for herself.

Spinning In Cowgirl Boots - Ned Ludd and the Luddites

Did you know that we crafters have a Robin Hood of our very own? We do and his name is Ned Ludd.

Ned Ludd as The Leader Of The Luddites. Published 1812 by Messrs. Walker and Knight (link from Wikimedia Commons)

He didn’t rob people and I don’t think he hooked up with any Maid Marrian types. But he was a beloved folkhero for middle class workers that supposedly lived in Sherwood Forest. He snuck out into the night and smashed up knitting machines and spinning jennys and powered looms. So today I’m telling his story and the story of the real-life Luddites.

Sunday Stitch - Making Crochet Granny Squares

I’ve read in various places and pattern books that granny squares can be sexy. I’m not making that claim. If these guys can’t make granny squares sexy then I don’t think anyone can.

But I will make the claim that granny squares are easy. Today I have three videos demonstrating how to make a basic, no-frills granny square.

Happy Blog-O-Versary

This month is my one year anniversary on this blog. Its such an important event that I accidentally noticed it only yesterday. Yep, it was last August that I made my first post here at Roving Crafters.

Don’t bother to read that first post. I’m certainly not going to. A while ago I was told that bloggers should never go back and read their older stuff because they will likely hate it and be tempted to pull it down. That sounds like good advice and I’m following it.

Sunday Stitch - Double Sided Knitting

Today lets try Double Sided Knitting!

No don’t leave. I promise its not that hard, not the way that I do it. Double sided knitting can get pretty complicated but it doesn’t have to be. Today I’ve got three videos which show how to make these little pot scrubbers. They are the perfect thing to try if you’ve never done double sided knitting. Give me a chance to talk you into it.
